The systems in Grand Theft Auto VI decide how you actually complete missions: how you fight, sneak, drive and switch between leads. This is also the part of the game where leaks run wild, so this page uses the strictest confirmed-versus-leak labelling on the site. If Rockstar has not shown it, it does not get a confirmed stamp here, no matter how widely repeated it is.
Confirmed Shown by Rockstar. Leak / unverified Leak, not confirmed.

Confirmed systems
Confirmed Two playable protagonists, Lucia and Jason. Rockstar's reveal confirms a dual-lead structure where you experience the story from both characters' perspectives, and that is the single most important fact for how missions are framed. Leak / unverified A free, GTA V-style switch-between-them-at-will system is widely expected and consistent with the trailers, but Rockstar has not officially detailed exactly how or when you change characters, so we treat the precise switching mechanic as expected rather than confirmed.
Confirmed The trailers also clearly show driving, gunplay and a highly detailed, reactive open world, crowds, traffic, weather and wildlife behaving believably across Leonida. These are confirmed by direct footage, even if the underlying mechanics are not broken down in detail.
Leaked or unconfirmed systems
This is where caution matters most. Everything below is rumour-tier and carries a leak label. It is collected here so you understand what is being claimed, not so you treat any of it as how the game works.
Leak / unverified A Jason "focus mode", sometimes compared to Red Dead's Dead Eye, has appeared in leaks. Rockstar has not confirmed any such ability.
Leak / unverified A romance or relationship meter between Lucia and Jason is rumoured from datamines. Unconfirmed.
Leak / unverified Weapon-carry limits, a more grounded approach to how many guns you hold at once, come from leaks. Unconfirmed.
Leak / unverified Detailed stealth and crouch mechanics, improved cover, drive-by changes and similar combat tweaks are leak-sourced. Some may prove true; none are confirmed.

Leak / unverified A six-star wanted level, and three small icons under the stars, a clothes hanger, a face and a vehicle, which fans read as the police tracking you by outfit, appearance and last car driven. Seen in the August 2026 leaked clips. Rockstar has confirmed none of it.
Leak / unverified A stamina bar that drains during melee, and an expression icon under the protagonist's portrait that turns sour after violent acts, which fans compare to Red Dead Redemption 2's honour system. Both are fan readings of a few seconds of footage, not stated mechanics.
Leak / unverified A character attribute system and playable basketball appear in the same leaked material. Same caveat: unconfirmed.
Those three entries come from the CYBERLEEK clips that surfaced on 18 August 2026. Take-Two issued takedown notices against videos carrying that footage, which is the main reason the press treats the clips as probably real, but "probably real footage" is still a long way from "confirmed mechanic". Rockstar premieres an extended look on 27 August 2026, and anything it actually shows moves up to the confirmed list above with its source named.
Why this strict labelling is the point
GTA 6 has generated more leaks than almost any game in history, and a lot of sites blur leak and fact to sound authoritative. We do the opposite. Where a rival writes "GTA 6 has a confirmed focus mode," we write "a focus mode appears in leaks and is unconfirmed." That discipline is the reason this page exists, and it is what makes the rest of our walkthrough framework trustworthy. The confirmed list is short on purpose, because honesty is the whole product.
How features shape your missions
Protagonist switching alone changes how you plan: some objectives suit Lucia's grounded, improvisational style, others suit Jason's military background and getaway instincts. Once the game launches, every confirmed mechanic gets folded into the actual walkthroughs, which weapon works for which mission, when stealth beats firepower, and how switching mid-mission changes your options.
This page is part of the GTA 6 missions walkthrough hub. See the characters guide for the leads these systems belong to, the vehicles guide for the driving side, and the heists guide where stealth and combat matter most.
FAQ
Does GTA 6 have a Dead Eye style focus mode? A focus mode has been mentioned in leaks and is sometimes attributed to Jason, but it is not confirmed by Rockstar. Treat it as a rumour.
Is there a romance system in GTA 6? A relationship or romance meter is rumoured from leaks. Rockstar has not confirmed it.
Is protagonist switching confirmed in GTA 6? Two playable protagonists, Lucia and Jason, are confirmed by Rockstar. A free, GTA V-style switch-at-will mechanic is widely expected but has not been officially detailed by Rockstar, so we treat the exact switching system as expected rather than confirmed.
Does GTA 6 limit how many weapons you can carry? A weapon-carry limit is a leak, not a confirmed feature. We do not present it as fact.
